A SOLO EXHIBITION BY JASON ADAMS
GUITAR STRUMMING BY SHAWN PACKER
OPENS NOV 7, 2015
8PM 'TILL LATE
When you peel back all the layers, all you’re left with is an image. A moment in time. A collection of paint cans. A man sitting in the corner, a wash in the fumes of his creation. It’s a simple thing, understood by the beholder, which came about from layers of seemingly arbitrary stencil.
Like the unifying statement of America, this work is, “E pluribus unum.” One created out of many. Layers falling in perfect harmony to create unobtrusive images, arguments, and statements that anyone can understand. It’s work in the great American tradition. It is easily taken at face value, and ultimately cavernous in its multiplicity and complexity. Layers, layers, layers.
That’s what art should be: immediately captivating and fulfilling to the eye, yet suggestive enough to stimulate the mind. There are no hidden messages, no riddles to unwind. Jason Adam’s work doesn’t rest on the laurels of pretension. He’s only interested in a statement and a question: “I don’t know. What do you think?”
